Ray’s Anatomy

July 26, 2007 |

Well maybe not so much ‘Ray’s Anatomy’ more ‘An anatomy of Ray’s blind’ given that we are about to dismantle a blind once belonging to the aforementioned Ray (tenuous, I know, but hey it’s a catchy title)
Basically what we are going to do is take a blind from it’s packaging and take it apart whilst letting you know of any useful tips in the process…….

The Box

Nice and simple packaging, highlighted with a touch of purple as provided by our parent companies logo!

all new and pristine

Step 1: Opening the Box

The only thing to say here is to ensure that you check the section of the box that covers the outside as often the pelmet will still be in this section.

Step 2: The Pelmet and Pelmet Returns

Simple and straight forward, this is the pelmet to cover the head-rail along with the optional side returns that you would use if you were installing the blind outside of a recess or to a door.

Step 3: The Fixing Kit

This will be found in a small cardboard box to one side of the blind itself. Here you can see all of the items in their glory. There are the two box brackets, the two optional support brackets (this is a 1500mm wide blind, we would only normally use one support bracket), the hold back clips and the pelmet hooks and velcro pads.

Step 3/I: Close Up of the Box Brackets

Quite simple, one box bracket for the right and one for the left, then we have two support brackets that sit in the centre of the blind to stop it bowing.

Step 3/II: Close up of the Hold Back Clips

If you look closely (or even better, click on the image for a bigger photo) you can see the two hold back clips. These would be used at the bottom of the blind and stop the blind blowing around if the window were open or if the blinds were fitted to a door.

Step 4: Removing the Bottom Rail (This can be used to shorten the blind should you ever need to)

First we gently prised out the plastic retaining plugs

So the plug is separate from the bottom rail. If you look carefully you can see the cord wrapped around the peg in the centre of the plug. The next thing we did was to undo the knot holding the cord in place.

We then removed the bottom rail, this in turn allowed us to begin sliding the slats out.

Resulting in a pile of separate slats

and……….

A naked blind!
